It Takes a Lifetime
I've only been painting abstracts for 3-4 years. I had an ignorant opinion of abstract art before then, I just didn't get the attraction. Then one day, I was perusing abstracts with my friend, he is also artistic. I shared with him my opinion of not seeing the worth, I stated, “I can do this in 5 minutes”. Snarky I know; nevertheless, he asked have I ever heard the Picasso story. Intrigued, he proceeded to tell me: A tourist commissioned Picasso for a piece of art. On the spot, Picasso produced the piece. He stated that will be $100,000. The tourist refuted, “You did that in 30 seconds”. Picasso replied in disgust, “You are wrong, it took me 40yrs”. Right there it hit me! Just because I can paint an abstract in “5 minutes” doesn't mean someone else can. I immediately started painting abstracts, 2 of which were selected by Monmouth Museum for their annual “International Artist” exhibits. My abstracts encompass the vibrant colors, swirls, and facets of life. Of course a piece takes longer than 5 minutes... It takes a lifetime.
